Project: 259 City Road
The Situation:
Ardmore Construction is constructing a new building at City Road,
London, Islington. They contacted Fire Fighter 24/7 because they became
aware that they may need to install a fire sprinkler system in line
with the regulations of section 20 of the London Building Act 1939.
The act stipulates that when a building is greater than 30 metres
in height and or exceeds 930 metres squared, a fire sprinkler system
must be fitted throughout the building.
Solution:
Ardmore Construction asked for our expert advice on the Section
20 London Building Act regulations and residential sprinkler systems.
Ardmore sought our advice on the most appropriate installation for
the 15 floor building plans. We responded by producing a detailed
strategy of the most effective fire sprinkler installation which
would provide maximum protection for both occupants and the building
itself.
Initially the plan presented a few challenges, one of which was figuring
out the most effective way of indicating where a fire had broken out
within the 15 floor building. We deduced that the best solution was
to link into the existing analogue fire alarm panel. We then linked
the panel into a switch flow system that integrated each floor into
the system, therefore if a fire ever did occur the fire brigade would
know exactly what floor the fire was on.
Result:
Ardmore Construction have awarded us with the installation of a
fire sprinkler system at City Road, London, Islington due to our
ability to provide a practical, efficient and cost-effective solution
to their requirements. Ardmore will now be fully compliant with
Section 20 of the London Building Act 1939, and will be applying
fully automated fire protection to their new construction.
